Abstract

This contribution examines the presence of German entrepreneurs in Lombardy between the end of the 18th century and the Italian agricultural crisis of the 1880s, with particular reference to the city of Milan and its province. The German "colony" in Milan made an important contribution to the modernization of the economic, social and cultural life of the Lombard capital and its territory.
