Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The most recent studies on the real estate market and on housing practices in the cities of the ancient regime have highlighted the polysemic character of the house, whose exchange responds to jagged logics, which embrace the social, political and symbolic dimension, as well as the economic one stricto sensu. The house, in addition to responding to a primary need, is an asset capable of generating status and rights. This article intends above all to point out interpretative paths of the sources that were previously uncommon. In particular, we want to observe some specific aspects of real estate exchange, with the aim of showing how the allocation of economic, social and relational capital occurs within an asymmetric game, as well as largely through credit and social dynamics. The importance of the choice of housing typology and the social connotation that this conferred on its owner or tenant emerges from the text. The case of the Pernate family from Novara is emblematic, since the steps that, from the countryside, brought them to the top of the Novara administration are clear and easily traceable.
