Translated title of the contribution: Images unveiled. Romanesque painting in Galliano and Civate

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The origin of this book is the international importance of Lombard Romanesque painting, which leads to new insights in relation to the episcopal centre of Milan, with regard to its origins and most important commissions. The lesser-known cycles of the nave, of biblical and hagiographic iconography, of the basilica of San Vincenzo in Galliano, renovated in 1007, are investigated; then the apocalyptic frescoes of San Pietro al Monte are studied in relation to the Old Testament ones of San Calocero in Civate, datable between the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century, analysed in detail. The aim is to reconstruct the rich culture characterising Romanesque art through the recovery of the exegetical sources and figurative models at the basis of the individual cycles, revealing the iconographic and “typological” density of the images.
