Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay reconstructs the phase of institutionalization of the television medium in Italy, focusing in particular on the process of constructing a stable and defined image of television audience, through the analysis and collation of different types of sources: references to spectators and simulacra of the public inscribed in the first programs still preserved in the Rai archives, spectatorial images modeled by managers, producers and television technicians and then fixed in various paratesti, such as corporate reports and publications (the «Radiocorriere» on all), the idea of the public that in the period emerged from the daily press (in particular from the "Corriere della Sera" and the "Corriere informazioni") and from the popular magazines ("La televis illustrated"), as well as from the first television critic.
