Abstract
The paper describes the cultural and pleasure trip that Archduke Ferdinand Habsburg-Lorraine d'Este made through Europe in 1786. In the company of his wife Maria Beatrice and a few courtiers and servants, he stopped off in some of Europe's major cities, visiting villas of delight, gardens, factories, theatres and collecting books, prints and objects. He took advantage of the trip to visit his brothers and sisters, in particular Marie Antoinette Queen of France, who was involved in the famous necklace scandal at the time.
