Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay explains in "Perfect Italian Poetry" an original line of reflection that is opposed as much to the rigors of French rationalist criticism as to the excesses and "follies" of the seventeenth-century season. From this position we can identify the taxose ascendancy in which Muratori found, on the basis of the writings of St. Augustine, the recognition of the always allegorical nature of poetry and at the same time the refusal to place the activity of the poets in the orbit of the false and of the liar.
