Abstract

The progressive opening up to international capital markets of emerging countries in the last fifteen years makes increasingly necessary the integration of the processes of economic development with the use of the financial devices of the advanced economies. According to this hypothesis, Venture Capital represents both an advanced financial tool and a relevant factor of development for emerging economies. Taking into consideration these evidences, the study tries to analyze this phenomenon from an innovative point of view. Firstly the monograph reviews Venture Capital from a microeconomic perspective, as an advanced instrument of financial intermediation, meanwhile successively it is developed an accurate empirical analysis of its impact on economic growth, foreign investments and capital flows in the countries of South-East Asia and Pacific: more specifically China, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Vietnam. In these environments Venture Capital could be able to attract not only national and international private capital, as it happens in the advanced economies, but even domestic and foreign public capital.
