[Autom. eng. transl.] The congress and events sector continues to grow in Europe, offering a significant contribution to local economies both in economic terms and in the dissemination of knowledge in the most innovative technological fields, contributing to the creation of value for businesses and for the community. The importance that, even in a digitized world, continues to be recognized for face-to-face communication encourages the development of an increasing number of both corporate and association events; the latter, although representing a more mature market, are experiencing, according to the findings of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), a development especially in the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical industries, taking advantage of the successful merger of the ITC with the pharmaceutical, banking (FinTech) and automotive sectors. In Italy too, the congress and events sector has developed in recent years in terms of the number of events and participants, registering a growing focus on the most specialized locations. In particular, in its fifth annual report, the Italian Observatory of Congresses and Events has tried to highlight the characterization of the sector by geographical area and the degree of competitiveness of the major destinations present in Italy in attracting international events.
