Abstract
The common thread that unites all the essays collected here is the idea that 'doing justice' requires the ability to find and build the 'right word' for the life situations that law, in particular criminal law, must face on a daily basis. A skill required of the legislator and of all so-called legal operators: magistrates, lawyers, legal advisors, public administrators or even ordinary citizens, who contribute, like institutions, to shaping the regulatory environment in which we are all immersed. And this 'right word' can only spring from a right time dedicated to people and to the 'immense concreteness' of their lives and relationships, exercising that capacity for attention that, as Susan Sontag observed, is precisely what makes us moral individuals.
