Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay traces the emergence in Italy of a new social category, that of youth, and its complex relationship with the media system of the 1960s. Through the use of primary sources drawn from the youth publications of the time, its importance is grasped in this historical period as an age of caesura between the great phase of economic and symbolic revival of the country, following the end of the Second World War, and the subsequent political awareness. Using youth as the litmus test of this era, the essay reveals the passage from a widespread but still naive mediation, that of the boom years, to the constitution of conscious social actors. The wide range of products, singers, films and songs in which to reflect oneself draws a generation poised between past and future, naively rebellious, but no less revolutionary.
