Abstract
Drawing from Collodi’s own reference to the expression time is money in 'Un romanzo in vapore' back to 1856, this essay investigates Collodi’s thoughts on time and money. Specifically, it identifies in Smiles and Franklin some of the sources of Collodi’s unpublished manuscripts on education and, in the light of numerous annotations and citations, it uncovers the role played by money in the process of “humanization” of Pinocchio.
