Abstract
Due to the high number of native and non-native German-speakers, the economic power of the German-speaking countries, and its use in transnational and international communication, German is to be considered a language with an international status.
The article presents the national and transnational use of German in view both of the status quo and of future perspectives in terms of language policy. Finally, it discusses the use of German for international business communication.
