[Autom. eng. transl.] The 2016 Report on the situation and prospects of the agri-food system in Lombardy constitutes an organic contribution to the knowledge of the characteristics of one of the most important regional systems in the European panorama. The objective of the Report, now in its fourteenth edition, is to provide indications to the operators of the sector and an overall reference framework for public actors. The first part of the volume reports the analysis of the main events of the year and the prospects of the system at regional and international level. The second part is initially composed of a broad summary of the structural and economic characteristics of the system. Following are three chapters dedicated to the analysis of agricultural policies at community, national and regional level, with a snapshot of their current configuration and examination of the trends in progress. In the third part of the Report the main components of the agri-food system are considered: retail distribution, food industry and agriculture, including the analysis of foreign trade of the regional and national system. The fourth part is reserved for the analysis of the factors of production, and in particular of the uses of labor, of the technical means, of the agricultural credit and of the land market. The concluding part of the volume concerns the analysis of the most significant supply chains of plant and animal production in the region. For each of them, the economic trends of agricultural production, processing, consumption and product prices are described. The monographic chapter, dedicated to the PDO and PGI productions of the Region, highlights the impact that these have in the respective sectors and the weight that the protected Lombardy productions exercise in the national context.
