Abstract
The construction of personal identity is a strategic factor in order to actualize the socio-political project of a global democratic citizenship. Nevertheless, identity, in common language, is an ambiguous word, often instrumentalised for political or ideological purposes. A static, stiff, self-referential and exclusive idea of identity doesn't fit with the dinamic, interactive and inclusive process of construction of personal and cultural identity. In order to prevent the spread of dangerous stereotypes and prejudices, education must provide materials and esperiences through which a new awareness can be achieved of the Other as a constituent part of the Self and integration as the natural vocation of every culture.
