Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Denied the commonplace of the "short century", inapplicable in the literary context, the question of the periodization of the twentieth century is discussed, discussing the solutions adopted so far in the manuals, scholastic and otherwise. In this regard, the need for a scan of the "long century" in four bays, each with its own distinct characteristics, can be argued against a passively received habit. Starting from the general coordinates of contemporary literature, the criteria for the determination of a twentieth-century canon are provided, for poetry no less than for prose, pushing the chronological axis forward with respect to the generational threshold identified by the National Guidelines for the new high schools, in order to identify representative authors also for the third and fourth Novecento.
