Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The work analyzes the problem of wisdom, mysterious initiation and rhetoric in the "Gorgia" on the basis of some puns. On the one hand, Socrates, initiated into the small and large Mysteries, is presented as the true wise man; on the other hand, the non-initiate appears, Callicles, characterized by superficial knowledge, used deceptively. The treatment of the body leads to a rich presentation of the human structure, open to the invisible and to the perspective of the sign. The persuasive dimension, in controversy with the Sophists, is focused according to the model of Plato's true rhetorician, gifted with knowledge of Ideas and the soul. The dimension in which issues relating to the body, the soul, persuasion and the good life must be inserted is that of the invisible, highlighted by the play on words Hades-invisible. Whoever does not follow the dialectical itinerary from the sensible to the intelligible, seeking virtue and wisdom, will remain, like the Sophist, unreasonable and uninitiated.
