Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In 1545 the Paduan philosopher and scholar Bernardino Tomitano published the Reasoning of the Tuscan language, a treatise in the form of a dialogue containing the account of the conversations held in the Sperone Speroni house in the aftermath of his election as prince of the Accademia degli Infiammati. At the center of the learned discussion is the relationship between philosophical knowledge and literary knowledge. The present intervention explores the ways and terms in which the mid-sixteenth century Paduan culture conceives and promotes the cognitive and civil value of rhetoric and oratory prose in the vernacular.
