Abstract
This contribution intends to analyze the role played by the Municipality of Milan
in the construction of the new city road fabric. After creation
of the Kingdom of Italy in 1805 by Napoleon, Milan was the subject of many projects
aimed at transforming a still medieval town into a modern European capital, starting
from the complete reconstruction of the internal road network.
This work was continued with greater results during the subsequent Austrian domination, saw the constant commitment of the Milanese municipal authorities, called upon to
interact daily with the superior departmental and provincial authorities,
as well as with the needs of private citizens, in a stable correlation between
public and private interests.
