Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The present chapter intends to highlight the centrality of dyadic coping in the face of the birth of a preterm child, a circumstance in which the couple finds itself assuming the parental role in an “unexpected” way and time, or when the psychic processes that characterize the pregnancy have not yet been completed. The partners are therefore, on the one hand, facing the mourning of the "ideal child", on the other hand facing a series of contingencies linked to the child's health and often prolonged hospitalization. In this sense, the ability to manage this critical period in a shared way can have important effects on the quality of their relationship, as well as on their individual well-being.
