Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The study investigates the development of moral disengagement as influenced by friends in a sample of two age groups: late childhood and early adolescence. Students from 16 classes participated in the study (6 elementary school classes, fourth grade at Time 1; 10 middle school classes, first and second graders at time 1). Through peer appointments as best friend the friendship nets within the classes and their evolution over a period of one year have been reconstructed. In both age groups, individual moral disengagement has evolved over time. In early adolescence the change in moral disengagement turned out to be under the social influence of friends. The individual levels of bullying and perceived popularity did not prove to moderate the effects of social influence of friends on the evolution of moral disengagement.
