Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Built at the end of 1921, the Catholic University of Milan did not include a Theological Faculty, which existed, instead, within the Milan Seminary. While in the first case several hypotheses were put forward to fill the gap, in the second case a first series of improvements was made, which occurred during the Apostolic Visit of Abbot Schuster (1926-1928). The Apostolic Constitution Deus scientiarum Dominus, published by Pius XI in 1931 to foster a profound reform of the Theological Faculties, stimulated negotiations because in Milan the Seminary and the Catholic University agreed to establish a single shared Theological Faculty: in the summer of 1932 the realization seemed imminent but, in reality, it soon failed. For its part, the Milan Seminary, having as its reference the Constitution and after laborious negotiations with the appropriate Roman Congregation, reformed its academic structure, which remained in force until the conciliar renewal. All this deals with the historical essay founded on unpublished documentation drawn from the archives of the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Catholic University of Milan and the Seminary of Milan.
