Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Gerardo da Sesso, canon of the cathedral of Parma, then abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Tiglieto and elected bishop of Novara, was a trusted man of Innocent III, for whom he carried out repeated interventions in the churches of northern Italy. In 1211 he was created cardinal bishop (elected) of Albano and was appointed papal legate in the Padana region, where he was active above all together with the bishop of Cremona Sicardo. After reconstructing the legacy itinerary in the region surrounding Bologna, a serious disciplinary sanction issued by him against a canon of Maguelone is examined, which, against canonical prohibitions, had undertaken the study of law in Bologna. In the appendix three documents of Honorius III are published which allow the reconstruction of the decisions of the legate.
