[Autom. eng. transl.] INTRODUCTION. The study deepens the theme of psychopathology in the context of the couple relationship in the face of the proliferation of the various diagnostic systems currently in use in clinical practice; systems that in the case of the conjugal bond are however based only on conflict, or on the so-called "marital distress". METHOD. Using an inductive methodology and the use of textual analysis techniques (modeling and factor analysis of the correspondences), the study aims to identify the interpretative models and the categories of meaning that organize, even implicitly, the relative clinical reports to 50 couple cases. The cases under examination, selected on the basis of theoretical sampling criteria, are taken from the Italian and foreign specialist literature, which in recent decades has given impetus to the development of "marital therapy". The group of cases was also selected so as to be homogeneously stratified according to some independent variables, such as the age of the spouses, the presence or absence of children, the type of request advanced, the orientation of the clinician's work, the type of setting. RESULTS. The emerging five-cluster model is interpreted at different levels: 1) as a function of the above independent variables; 2) depending on the possibility of tracing the basic dimensions of torque operation; 3) in order to articulate a diagnostic system related to the different forms of the pathology of the bond; 4) in view of a comparison with other models related to the couple relationship, developed in the psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral field. CONCLUSIONS. The results of the survey are discussed in terms of the methodology used in terms of sampling, construction and analysis of the empirical basis, in terms of the advantages and the limits underlying these procedures.
