Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The European Directive 68/193 / CEE establishes the National Register of Vine Varieties of which the propagation material is subjected to official control and certification. In Italy the national legislation has assigned to the Council for Research and Experimentation in Agriculture - Research Center for Viticulture (CRA-VIT) the conservation and updating of the Register. In order to make the information contained in the Register more accessible to users, the CRA-VIT, within the activities of control and certification of the propagation material of the vine, has developed an online application that the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies has included in its website. To date, the following are included: i) 530 descriptions relating to varieties of wine grapes, table grapes and varieties of rootstocks taken from scientific publications or from the dossiers submitted for the request to register the varieties in the Register; ii) 818 description sheets of clones concerning their main characteristics, especially those relating to the wine produced; iii) 8323 photographs of the different parts of the vine. Stem, leaf and cluster are shown at different times of the vegetative season and this constitutes a useful support to the descriptions; iv) production data for rooted cuttings of all varieties from 1989 to the present; v) list of DOP and IGP Wines related to the varieties concerned and classification of varieties for each region. Furthermore, the Registry includes a wide range of information on the use of varieties in wine production and, through images related to the production of propagation material, their importance in terms of cultivation. The possibility of having descriptions relating to the main characteristics of the clones and their production assist the winemaker when choosing the material. The National Register in its online form is easy to use and is consulted by technicians, farmers, nursery owners and other stakeholders interested in viticulture and oenology.
