Abstract

The theme of foundation is the main metaphysical question. In the journal «Rivista di Filosofia Neo-Scolastica» three important mainstreams are analysed: the first is a conservative interpretation of St. Thomas Aquinas’ original thought (Amato Masnovo, Francesco Olgiati, Cornelio Fabro, Ignazio Bonetti). The second mainstream insists on the need of a rigorous analysis of foundation: the famous dispute between Gustavo Bontadini and Emanuele Severino will orient the philosophical research of the Università Cattolica for decades. The third current seems weaker, because of its moderate formulation and style. Although it is open towards comparison, it is rigorous, based on phenomenology and on the way the latter was introduced in the Università Cattolica, through the passionate and prolific studies of Sofia Vanni Rovighi, followed by Italo Mancini, Adriano Bausola and Virgilio Melchiorre.
