[Autom. eng. transl.] In interventions of protection and social aid, listening to minors is of central importance, as well as constituting an ethical duty for operators and, in many cases, a legal obligation. The independent professional spokesperson is a figure specially dedicated to making this listening possible: someone who has no direct responsibility on the situation and can therefore concentrate on the task of helping the child to express himself and participate in the decisions that affect his life, in the way for him more appropriate. The function of the spokesperson is of recent experimentation in Italy, but it has a remarkable tradition in international social work, in which it is called advocacy function. the text is the first manual on the subject written specifically for the Italian context. It provides the conceptual framework and all the operational indications necessary to effectively initiate the practice of advocacy in the social-assistance services, in the host communities, in the context of family custody.
