Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Narrative thought is now considered one of the modes of mental functioning of man. It is not easy to identify a unique definition in the literature. However, the multiplicity of studies in this regard, albeit with different accents and underlining, highlight two salient features (Propp, 1926; Burke, 1945; Labov and Waletski, 1967; Todorov, 1971; Bruner, 1986, 1991; Schanck and Abelson , 1995; Nelson, 1996; Bamberg, 1997, Grazzani, 2000). The first is its interpretative dimension. Narrative thought performs the function of mediation between experience and the one who narrates it. For this reason it is not bound to reality, but is proposed as a point of view on the reality experienced and recreated. The second salient trait lies in its episodic dimension. Narrative thought concerns events, facts and episodes and for this reason has a spatio-temporal and causal organization. The socio-cultural approach from Vygotsky to Bruner focused on the interpretative dimension of narrative thought. In it the narrative thought is considered a peculiar symbolic activity. In this contribution we will deepen these two aspects by highlighting their relationship with the communicative dimension
