Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The epistles to Sextus Pompey in the IV book of Ovid's Ex Ponto allow us to identify not only the ways of celebrating an important character according to the techniques of the panegyric, but also those in which the exiled poet implements a subtle technique of coercion to induce him to act in his favor. The expressions of devout gratitude and the construction of a pedestal on which to place the addressee commit him to this effect in the eyes of all Roman society.
