Abstract
The essay is a reflection on how the digure of the father (and more in general of the family) is represented in mainstream contemporary tv series. After a reflection on the key theme of conflict in dramaturgy, the essay describes some solutions that one can find in Downton Abbey, that succeeds in having some very interesting and compelling conflicts, but without repeating stereotypes of absent or negative and terrible fathers.
