Abstract

This paper deals with the various historical figures named Pharax/Pharakidas and identifies three Pharax (I, II, III) and one Pharakidas, to be separated from Pharax (II). Furthermore, it tries to evaluate the Spartan policy in the West, which seems to be exposed to attacks focusing on its relation with Dionysius the Elder’s tyranny.
