Abstract

The volume explores diachronically the tòpos of the "haunted house", from the primitive beliefs found in ancient and Christian literature, up to medieval Europe. Between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries the theme enters the horror genre (as the Gothic novel, in the elaboration of the fantastic and in the "Ghost story") and in the Twentieth Century it opens up to various metamorphoses within fiction and cinema, video games and of comics.
