[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay reconstructs the environment of German writers and intellectuals who frequented the Lake Garda Riviera at the beginning of the 20th century, which in those years became a famous health resort and residence for the nobility and the middle European bourgeoisie. Starting from the countless writers on the list of foreigners - Fremdenliste - reported weekly by the German newspaper Der Bote vom Gardasee, published on the lake from 1900 to 1914, and using a rich unpublished manuscript documentation collected in the Monacensia Archives and the Munich Staatsbibliothek , the essay investigates with innovative results the Munich literary scene between naturalism and Jugendstil. It also reconstructs, on the one hand, the personal contacts made between the German writers on Lake Garda, and on the other the image of the Lake they developed in constant comparison, now admired, now controversial, with the Goethian model. Finally, the essay highlights the personality of Martin Birnbaum, since 1903 the new editor of the newspaper, about which little or nothing was known until now, and the role of cultural mediation carried out by Bote vom Gardasee in Wilhelm Germany. The essay is accompanied by a biographical appendix with the profiles of German writers and the dates of their stay in Lake Garda.
