Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The construction of the adoptive bond is a long and complex path that is part of an intricate network of family and social relations. The volume presents an all-round overview of the psychosocial aspects of adoption through the point of view of some of the leading international experts. In particular, in the first part, after the presentation of a specific theoretical approach to adoption, the symbolic-relational approach illustrates the developments of research in this sector, a meta-analysis related to the outcomes of adopted children (physical growth, attachment, development cognitive, behavioral problems and self-esteem), and a review of studies on family relationships, ethnic identity, openness to adoptive issues and, finally, the transition to adopted parenthood by parents. The contributions of the second part focus on the design and implementation of interventions to support families in the various stages of the adoption path. The volume is aimed at those who are engaged in various ways in the field of adoptions from the point of view of research, training and preventive and therapeutic intervention.
