Abstract
Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2013 edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labour market. After a synthesis of major European and international trends about economic migrations and migrants' occupational performances, it analysis the most recent data concerning migrants’ labour forces, employment and unemployment, describing the impact of the economic recession on both migrants and autochthonous workers. A specific focus is devoted to the problem of migrants' unemployment. Finally, it develops some considerations about the future governance of economic migration in Italy. The contribution is also available in the English version (see: “Labour”, The XIX Italian Report on Migrations)
