Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume reconstructs the human and intellectual story of Karl Barth, the greatest reformed theologian of the 20th century, in the decisive years behind the outbreak of the Great War. Driven by the experience of the so-called 'religious socialism' and the fracture caused by the world conflict in the Christian world and in theology itself, Barth severed his ties with 'liberal theology', whose school he had formed, and is preparing to draft of the most important work of the twentieth century theology, his commentary on the Letter to the Romans. The research shows that the intellectual and biographical story examined here is not just a moment, however decisive, of passage, but determines the fundamental structures of later Barthian theology, destined to remain constant throughout his work.
