Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay offers a preliminary description of the “diaries” of Renato Poggioli, a domestic name for sixteen folders of mostly manuscript materials, preserved among the scholar’s papers and gathered under the common title of “Libri Mastri”. The documents are heterogeneous in nature, and Poggioli himself oscillated in defining them (“diary”, “ledger”, “journal”, “zibaldone”). Dating approximately between the end of 1943 and the beginning of 1947, the materials include both the actual “diary” in which Poggioli recounts his experiences and impressions as a soldier enlisted in the American army during the Second World War (1943-1945); as well as a large series of notes and annotations on books and critical essays, and broader literary, political, and philosophical reflections. An initial presentation of the documents is offered, describing them from an archival point of view and illustrating their most frequent and significant themes.
