Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In 2011 AVG, a company that deals with ICT security, carried out research on the behavior of children by interviewing 2200 mothers from the most industrialized countries with children aged 2 to 5 years. It emerged that children's ability to interact with digital technologies is greater than their ability to interact with the real world: 63% know how to turn a computer on and off; 69% know how to use the mouse, demonstrating dexterity in moving around in a virtual world; 58% of children can play video games of basic difficulty; 28% are able to call from a mobile phone; 19% manage to play with tablet and smartphone applications. The research has shown that there are no particular differences between males and females, while there are (minimal) ones if one looks at the age of the mother: among children whose mothers are over 35 years of age there are higher percentages regarding motor skills, while activities related to the world of technology do not undergo any changes. Finally, the research highlighted how in recent years there has been a strong acceleration in the use of digital media, above all thanks to the massive diffusion of touch interfaces on tablets and smartphones.
