Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The term "fundamentalism", in its various meanings and uses, seems to have become by now a concept to which the most varied and disparate points of view and sensitivity are associated with respect to both the relationship between the faithful and the cult dimension as well as between religion and politics. The only common element that generally guides and inspires, in our opinion erroneously, this operation of association and definition from the outside is the perception that it is a certain intransigence and inflexibility the figure that accumulates the subjects included in this category. It follows that the adoption of this interpretative prism frequently tends to make the term "fundamentalism" an imaginary rather than a valid instrument of knowledge. All this leads to the creation of ever more elusive typologies, long cataloging and tables that try to fix and frame according to various very different reality attributes on the basis of a concept that now appears somewhat "evanescent". In short, from this arises a sort of paradox that makes the term "fundamentalism" an open category, capable of embracing different socio-political and religious experiences in time and space, but which for this very reason proves to be analytically "weak" in being both right of the specific requests brought forward by the subjects to whom this definition applies, both of the method adopted by them in responding to the questions and needs arising in comparison with everyday life.
