Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay examines the impact of smallpox on European societies and the contrasted spread of vaccination in Europe since the discovery of Edward Jenner in 1798, highlighting how, despite popular hostility towards this occult technique, with unknown effects, it knew a slow but steady affirmation, which spreading to the whole planet, led to the extinction of the disease in 1980.
