Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The study examines the method on which the etymological sections of the “Cratylus” are based with great coherence, starting from the revealing etymology of “mechane” (expedient, theatrical machine), with a complete analysis of the use of this word in the Platonic dialogues . In analogy with the action of theatrical machines, which make divinities appear on the stage that quickly resolve complex situations, the game of "mechanics" applied to names produces a multiplication of words, which leads to further terms, which can be synonyms, or homonyms, or antonyms, or similar from a phonetic point of view. Thanks to these names, more complex explanations of the problems are introduced, which are inserted into the perspective of a dialectic of "Kinesis" and "Stasis", on which reality is based, with a significant correspondence between the reduction of words to letters and the reduction of things with elements.
