In writing Malombra, Fogazzaro stated that he wished to create a book that was <<healthy, corroborative>>, in tune with the <<high, spiritualist doctrines>> to which he wished to align <<body and soul>>. But the novel's market components of sensual mysticism and occultism make it difficult to perceave wheather theese intentions were fully realized. The essay attempts to demonstrate the using precise narrative and lexical strategies, the occultism and mysticism that pervades Malombra were effectively judged and demistified, in favor of the more virile and responsible alternative of tne christian mystery.
