Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The paper aims to identify which variables may affect the intention to donate blood in a group of Avis neodonators. The data presented here are in line with the literature trend (for a closer look, see Godin, 2005): the organization of the structure, along with personal variables, has an influence in favoring the intention to continue to donate (Omoto and Snyder, 1995, 2000; Healy, 2000, 2006; Mikkelsen, 2004; Schreiber 2006; Hanson, 2009). Among the personal variables, the perception of being able to easily manage all the obstacles that could prevent donating (93% of new donors have already made more than two donations) is the variable that most influences the intention to donate. The reasons for the Protection of the Ego, in the negativity that binds them to the intention to donate, confirm the judgment shared in the literature regarding the personality of the donors, which seem to be driven by reasons of prosociality and altruism, as recently demonstrated by Valentine's works ( 2005) and Bennett (2009), in which blood donation is considered a public and altruistic act of civic engagement. Among the variables linked to the context, they influence the intention to donate the call, that is, the way in which donors are notified of the renewed possibility of donating; the place, as a welcoming place that makes the donors feel "at home", the rewards.
