Abstract

The volume presents the results of a research project set up within the Language Sciences Department of the Catholic University of Milan and carried out by a working group whose members are school teachers, teacher trainers and university professors. The research objective was to interpret the indications provided in the European Profile for Language Teacher Education on the basis of Italian school norms and, more importantly, from the perspective of language educators in Italy. The project resulted in a personalized version of the Profile made up of concise guidelines, helpful in planning and setting up European training courses aimed at language teachers (mother-tongue, second or foreign language) and at CLIL teachers. The acronym A.N.D.R.O.M.E.D.A. summarises the guidelines offered in the book and is a metaphor of the key aspects of teacher training. In fact, A.N.D.R.O.M.E.D.A. is a well-known galaxy, whose spiral form suggests circularity and cyclicity and stands for renewal and constant updating, vital components in the training of teaching professionals.
