Abstract
What are the distinctive features of Catholic credit cooperation compared to the rest of the banking system? Moreover, what adaptation process had the rural bank movement (later Bcc) to go through to keep this claimed identity alive? The paper traces the events of Christian-inspired cooperative credit, from the regulatory scheme imposed by fascism to the urgent challenges posed by the reforms of the 1990s. This path was anything but linear, in which some key figures played a fundamental role in preserving the original principles of mutuality and the link with the territory.
