Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The terminology identifies the object that it calls, defines it conceptually and culturally, specifies its origin, location, dating, and makes us understand the role of those who use it. In costume, every single term immediately offers the coordinates of a fashion of yesterday and today, of a secret and well-guarded manufacturing process, of a detail that makes the difference. A terminological approach presents three different directions of interest: it allows us to define the costume with precision and accuracy, offering a documented philological reconstruction; it allows to capture the salient narrative aspects to invite to the deepening of who is of the trade and to recognize the mastery and the deep formation; finally, it favors the fascination that leads from the end to the artifact and from the artifact to all its artistic and cultural context.
