Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] As of December 5, 2018, Lombardy has a total of 76 PDO or PGI products, of which, as regards the food sector, i.e. wines excluded, 20 PDO (13 exclusively affect the Lombard territory) and 14 PGI (6 that can only be produced in Lombardy). Of the national total of denomination products recognized by the European Commission, excluding wines, Lombardy holds 12% of the PDO and 10.8% of the PGI. Given the strong zootechnical vocation of the region, 14 PDO are made up of cheeses; to these are added 3 types of processed meat, 2 extra virgin olive oils and Varesino Honey. On the other hand, PGI products include 7 types of processed meat, 3 types of fruit, 2 fish products, a vegetable and a type of pasta.
