Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The Enlightenment tradition had consolidated in the West the method of debate of ideas and the maturation of a synthesis consensus of the various contributions. With the emergence of popular democracies, this method is no longer viable and consequently indirect forms of consensus formation such as delegation to totalitarian powers, source of forced consent, have taken over; or with a general reference to the people an immediate consent interpreted by some charismatic leader; finally, the democratic mediation of the delegation. Proponents of the web consider it possible to return to direct and continuous consultation through the network. However, in a complex society, direct democracy can only be re-proposed in small groups, with the risk that the thought of some may be presented as the thought of all, bypassing the very founding act of democracy, in which we find ourselves living. . Thus the centrality of the relationship that uses the means and not vice versa reappears in the formation of consensus.
