Abstract

The essay is focused on the developments of the monumental building of San Giorgio di Montagna in Valtellina, with particular attention to the 15th and 16th centuries. Architectural and decorative sequences are examined in their complex layering. In particular, the Marian frescoes cycle painted by Sigismondo De Magistris in 1514 and the rediscovery of the original frame for the miraculous fifteenth-century image of the Madonna and Child emerge. The oldest emergencies of the village are also reported.
