Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Can Manzoni's Sacred Hymns still arouse some interest in a strongly secularized society marked by a very strong lack of religious culture? The essay of comment that is offered here tries to give a positive answer to this crucial question, indicating both the historical novelty of the Resurrection and its actuality, as a response to the perennial question about being and not being, about life and the death. It also shows how the Manzoni text is characterized by a tension that leads ever further, from an uneasiness that goes beyond pacifying boundaries and that descends into metric, rhetorical and syntactic structures, constituting a remarkable example of synergy between forms and content.
