Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The authors comment on the practice of registering pharmaceutical patents with a general formula with variable substituents. In this case the patent application is not related to a single chemical compound, but to an entire class of compounds described by means of a general formula in which, next to the common base structure, one or more atoms of the molecule are represented by variable substituents , so that the formula, instead of identifying a single and well-defined compound, embraces a number of compounds that is often in the order of some millions
